Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro (pronuncia portoghese [kɾɨʃˈtiɐnu ʁuˈnaɫdu]; Funchal, 5 febbraio 1985) è un calciatore portoghese, attaccante o ala del Real Madrid e capitano della Nazionale portoghese.
Ritenuto uno dei calciatori più forti del mondo[2][3][4][5][6] e di tutti i tempi,[7][8][9] figura tra i più prolifici attaccanti in attività,[10][11][12] e nella storia.[13][14][15][16][17]
Con la Nazionale portoghese si è laureato vice-campione d'Europa nel 2004. Conta 118 presenze e 52 reti con la maglia dei lusitani; secondo calciatore per numero di presenze, dietro a Luís Figo, e primo per quanto riguarda le reti realizzate.
È comparso ininterrottamente nella classifica del Pallone d'oro[18] dal 2004, conquistando sette podi (di cui quattro consecutivi), con il secondo posto del 2007, la vittoria del 2008, i secondi posti del 2009, del 2011, del 2012, la seconda vittoria del 2013 e la terza nel 2014. Ha occupato, per quattro anni consecutivi, il podio dell'UEFA Best Player in Europe Award classificandosi terzo (nel 2011 e nel 2013), secondo (nel 2012) e vincendolo nel 2014.[19]
Nel 2004 è stato inserito nella formazione ideale di Euro 2004. Ha fatto parte per 9 volte nella squadra dell'anno UEFA: nel 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 e nel 2014. Il Sun nel 2009 lo ha insignito nella Squadra ideale del decennio.[20]
È stato tra i protagonisti, nel 2008, del triplo successo del Manchester United in Champions League, Premier League e Coppa del mondo per club FIFA; proprio in virtù di tali vittorie si è aggiudicato il Pallone d'oro 2008 (terzo portoghese in assoluto a vincere questo premio), la Scarpa d'oro 2008 ed il FIFA World Player 2008.
Il suo trasferimento dal Manchester United al Real Madrid, nell'estate del 2009, per 94 milioni di euro, ha fatto registrare un record assoluto nella storia del calciomercato.[21] Con il club spagnolo ha vinto due Coppe del Re, una Liga, una Supercoppa Spagnola, una Champions League e una Supercoppa UEFA. Inoltre è il giocatore del Real Madrid ad aver segnato più gol (60, di cui 46 in campionato) in una sola stagione.
Al 2014, con un patrimonio di 148 milioni di euro, è il calciatore più ricco del mondo davanti a Lionel Messi e Samuel Eto'o.[22]
