All original artwork created by TheSportsDB is licensed under Creative Commons. This applies to rights held by TheSportsDB; it does not relicense third-party photographs, logos or other material included in or hosted alongside that artwork. Check the specific licence and version attached to each image or its original source. If these details are missing, contact us before publishing it.
Understanding strCreativeCommons
Where provided, this API field records the Creative Commons status of artwork associated with a record, including player artwork. It is a status flag, not the licence text or proof that every image on that record has the same licence:
Yes: artwork is recorded as Creative Commons. Verify the exact image, creator, source and applicable licence before use.No: Creative Commons licensing has not been confirmed. Do not treat the image as cleared for reuse.Unknown, an empty or missing value, or an unrecognised value: licensing is unverified. Artwork marked unknown must not be used in app store submissions or publicly, including published apps, websites, store listings, screenshots, previews, icons and promotional material. Exclude it or use a cleared replacement until its licence or written permission has been confirmed.Licence conditions and attribution
Follow the actual image licence: credit the creator and TheSportsDB as appropriate, link to the source and licence, and identify changes. Check any NonCommercial, NoDerivatives or ShareAlike conditions against your intended use. Do not impose licence-prohibited restrictions or DRM on the artwork. A Creative Commons flag does not clear third-party trademark, privacy or publicity rights, or imply endorsement by a team, league or athlete. See the Creative Commons guidance.
Submitting to the Apple App Store or Google Play (Android)
Check the images both inside your app, including those loaded through the API, and in your store listing. Use only images for which you can demonstrate the necessary rights. Keep an image-by-image record of the source URL, creator, licence and version, attribution, and any written permissions. Make credits accessible in your app and supply rights documentation to reviewers when requested.
Apple App Review Guidelines 5.2, including 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 require appropriate content rights and permission to use third-party services. Google Play intellectual property policy prohibits infringement in apps and store listings and explains how to provide written permission before submission. Follow each store's current policies and ensure its distribution terms are compatible with each image licence. Our paid-subscription requirement for API use in published app store apps still applies; it does not replace image permissions or change existing Creative Commons licence rights. TheSportsDB cannot guarantee app store approval.
