Description

Qualifying was held on November 21, 2025, at 20:00 local time (UTC−8), and determined the starting grid order for the race.

Qualifying report
Heavy rain was observed during the F1 Academy race earlier in the night, so the qualification was held on a wet track. Teams utilised both wet compounds, which consisted of the intermediates and the full wet tyre; both were in use throughout the session, but the track began to dry during the third session, so all teams switched to intermediates.

The first session saw Alexander Albon (Williams), Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) all eliminated from the top-15 shootout. Of note, Albon hit the wall at turn 16 in a similar fashion to Franco Colapinto's qualifying incident the previous year, and Hamillton's last-place qualification makes this the first time, disregarding penalties and accidents, that he has qualified last on pure pace, and Ferrari's first last-place qualification since the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Giancarlo Fisichella qualified twentieth. Carlos Sainz Jr. (Williams) rejoined the track unsafely against Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), for which the Williams driver was summoned to the stewards; he was not penalised with a grid drop.

The second session saw Nico Hülkenberg (Sauber), Stroll, who gambled on intermediates late into Q2, Esteban Ocon, Oliver Bearman (both Haas), and Colapinto (Alpine) all eliminated from the top-ten shootout. The session was delayed, and no further major incidents were reported. The third session saw all teams switch to intermediates, as the track began to dry, where Lando Norris (McLaren) took pole position from Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Sainz. Championship competitor Oscar Piastri was fifth, and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) qualified in ninth.
