Jack Johnson officially retired from playing in the NHL on January 5, 2026, after a 19-season career. He immediately transitioned to a front-office role, joining the Vancouver Canucks as a professional scout. He has previously played for the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche. In his prime, he was known as a capable two-way defenseman, combining physical prowess and offensive capabilities in his style of play. Johnson won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022.

On July 3, 2024 he signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Columbus.
