Description

The second round at Lakewood National Golf Club (Commander Course) carries the weight of the 36-hole cut, historically one of the lowest on the Korn Ferry Tour. Following a day where scoring was exceptionally high, the field enters Friday knowing that even a round under par might not be enough to secure a spot for the weekend. The course continues to offer wide landing areas, but the objective for the players is to navigate the increasingly firm and fast greens as the Florida sun bakes the surfaces throughout the afternoon.

The primary strategy for those on the bubble is to attack the par-5s, particularly the reachable 10th and 14th holes, to offset the potential for wind-blown bogeys on the back nine. With a cut line projected at 3-under-par or lower, the goal for the morning wave is to post a score before the coastal gusts intensify. Tactical restraint is required on the par-3s, where pin positions are expected to be tucked near the many false fronts characteristic of the Commander Course's design.

Ian Gilligan (USA) moved into a share of the lead following a superb 8-under-par 63 in the second round, bringing his total to 15-under-par. Gilligan was locked in a back-and-forth battle with Jeremy Gandon (FRA), who also surged up the leaderboard with a 6-under-par 65. The two now sit atop the field, holding a narrow one-stroke advantage heading into the weekend. Their combined consistency has turned the tournament into a high-octane race where birdies are a necessity to keep pace.

Augusto Núñez (ARG) and first-round leader Jay Card III (USA) remain in prime position, both sitting at 14-under-par after carding matching rounds of 66 and 67 respectively. The day was defined by a massive cluster of players moving into double digits under par, including Trace Crowe and Cole Hammer, the latter of whom shot a 64 to move into the top five. The official cut line fell at 3-under-par, unfortunately claiming several notable names, including Will Gordon and Brandon Wu, who both finished just one stroke shy of the weekend at -2.
