Description
The 2026 Strade Bianche Donne brings the world’s elite female cyclists to the iconic white gravel roads of Tuscany for a 137-kilometer test of strength and skill. The strategic narrative centers on the eleven sectors of sterrati, totaling over 32 kilometers, which demand perfect bike handling and tactical positioning before the race's legendary conclusion. The primary challenge remains the final 500 meters up the Via Santa Caterina, where gradients hit 16%, determining who will enter the Piazza del Campo with enough momentum to claim one of cycling's most prestigious trophies.
Defending champion Demi Vollering enters as the favorite, leading a powerful FDJ-SUEZ squad that aims to neutralize threats from a resurgent Lotte Kopecky and the evergreen Marianne Vos. Strategically, teams will look to create separations on the brutal Le Tolfe sector, the final gravel stretch where the race often shatters into elite groups. Elise Chabbey (FDJ-SUEZ) claimed a career-defining victory at the 2026 Strade Bianche Donne, emerging from a chaotic and dramatic finale to become the first Swiss woman to win the event. The race took a shocking turn when a group of favorites, including Demi Vollering and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, were led off course by a race motorbike, effectively ending their chances. This paved the way for a tactical masterclass by Chabbey, who remained focused despite the confusion to join an elite lead group of eight riders in the final kilometers.
The race was decided on the steep stones of Via Santa Caterina and the technical corners leading into the finish. As Elisa Longo Borghini and Katarzyna Niewiadoma jostled for position at the head of the race, Chabbey seized a momentary gap in the final 200 meters. She dived up the inside of a three-wide corner to overtake her rivals and sprinted across the line in 3:35:42. Niewiadoma secured second place for the fourth time in her career, while Chabbey’s teammate Franziska Koch rounded out the podium in third, capping a remarkable day for the FDJ-SUEZ team.
