The second round of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship takes the premier class to the Autódromo Internacional de Goiânia – Ayrton Senna for its much-anticipated return to Brazil. The primary challenge for the riders in Qualifying 1 (Q1) is a track surface that proved unpredictable during Friday’s rain-affected practice sessions. For several high-profile riders who missed the direct Q2 cutoff—including Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini—the objective is to secure one of the two remaining spots in the final pole position shootout.

Strategically, Q1 is a 15-minute high-tension sprint. The objective for the Ducati Lenovo Team duo is to leverage their technical data from the Buriram test to overcome a lack of dry-track setup time in Goiânia. With the Brazilian circuit featuring a mix of high-speed sweeps and heavy braking zones, the tactical priority for the 12-rider field is to find a "clean tow" while avoiding the traffic congestion that often plagues the final flying laps.

Result Description
Johann Zarco and Francesco Bagnaia successfully navigated a pressure-cooker Q1 session at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna, securing their passage into the pole position shootout. The session was defined by a late-lap scramble as track conditions continued to improve following early morning dampness. Zarco, riding the LCR Honda, set the benchmark with a 1:18.065 to top the session, showcasing impressive adaptability on the tight Brazilian layout.

The battle for the final transfer spot was a dramatic affair between the factory Ducati teammates. Francesco Bagnaia managed to find a clear window in the closing seconds, posting a 1:18.122 to edge out Enea Bastianini by less than a tenth of a second. Bastianini will subsequently start 13th on the grid after failing to improve on his final attempt. Other notable riders who fell short included home hero Diogo Moreira, who will start 14th in his debut home Grand Prix, and Fabio Quartararo, who struggled with front-end feel on his Yamaha throughout the short session.
