The 2026 MotoGP season ignites at the Chang International Circuit with a landscape drastically altered by high-profile moves. The primary focus is on the debut of the "2027 Superteam" at Ducati, where reigning champion Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia share a garage for the first time. However, it was Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi who stole the pre-race headlines, clinching pole position and setting a blistering pace throughout the practice sessions.
The 4.5km circuit, known for its extreme heat and punishing braking zones, presents a massive challenge for the updated 2026 machinery. KTM’s Pedro Acosta enters the weekend with "The Shark" mentality, looking to prove that his sophomore-season growth can challenge the established veterans. With the introduction of new tyre regulations and a grid featuring hungry rookies like Diogo Moreira and Toprak Razgatlioglu, the season opener in Thailand is set to be a high-stakes battle where strategy and heat management will dictate who stands on the first podium of the year.

Marco Bezzecchi delivered a masterclass in resilience, converting his pole position into a dominant victory at the PT Grand Prix of Thailand. After the heartbreak of crashing out from the lead in Saturday’s Sprint, the Italian was flawless on Sunday, building a five-second gap over the field to secure Aprilia's first win of the season. The victory makes Bezzecchi the first rider in Aprilia's history to win three successive Grands Prix, dating back to his wins in Portugal and Valencia at the end of 2025.
The race was a disaster for the factory Ducati team. Reigning champion Marc Marquez was fighting in the podium group when his rear tyre suffered a catastrophic failure—his rim literally "exploded" at high speed, forcing a scary but safe retirement. His teammate, Pecco Bagnaia, struggled for pace throughout the afternoon, finishing a distant ninth. KTM’s Pedro Acosta continued his incredible start to 2026, finishing second to maintain his lead in the World Championship standings, while Raul Fernandez secured a historic third for the Trackhouse Racing team. This result also notably ended Ducati’s 88-race podium streak, marking the first time in five years that a Desmosedici did not feature in the top three.
