She won in 1:25:54, retaining her title and completing her second consecutive 20 km and 35 km sweep at a World Championships. Alegna González claimed silver in 1:26:06 after responding late to Pérez’s surge. Nanako Fujii delighted the home crowd with bronze in 1:26:18, the best ever finish for a Japanese athlete in this event. Kimberly García faded to fifth after contesting the lead early.
