María Pérez of Spain arrived as the defending champion and was targeting a rare “double double,” having already won the 35 km race walk earlier in the championships and holding both titles from 2023. Alegna González of Mexico, Nanako Fujii of Japan and Kimberly García of Peru were among the main challengers. She won in 1:25:54, retaining her title and completing her second consecutive 20 km and 35 km sweep at a World Championships. Alegna González claimed silver in 1:26:06 after responding late to Pérez’s surge. Nanako Fujii delighted the home crowd with bronze in 1:26:18, the best ever finish for a Japanese athlete in this event. Kimberly García faded to fifth after contesting the lead early. Pérez’s win underlined her status as the world’s best race walker, while the high standard across the top five reflected the strength of women’s race walking globally.
