Result Description

Evan Dunfee captured gold in 2:28:22, timing his move perfectly in the last eight kilometres and holding firm despite tiring late. Caio Bonfim earned silver in 2:28:55, and Japan’s Hayato Katsuki delighted the home crowd with bronze in 2:29:16. Zhou Yingcheng of China and Aurélien Quinion of France rounded out the top five. The early start helped a little with the conditions, but the heat still made it a test of resilience, with Dunfee’s composure proving the difference.
