Description

Spain’s María Pérez entered as the favourite, aiming to defend her 35 km world title after dominating at both 20 km and 35 km in 2023. Italy’s Antonella Palmisano, Poland’s Katarzyna Zdziebło and a strong Chinese team were expected to challenge. The main factor was the hot, humid Tokyo conditions, making pacing and late stamina crucial.

Result Description

María Pérez controlled the race from early on and surged clear in the closing kilometres to win gold in 2:39:01, retaining her world crown. Antonella Palmisano took silver in 2:42:24, and Paula Milena Torres of Ecuador earned bronze in 2:42:44, setting a national record. Li Peng of China and Katarzyna Zdziebło rounded out the top five. The heat caused several contenders to fade, but Pérez handled it best, sealing another dominant title.
