Football in the town dates back to the turn of the 20th century; however, it was not until 7 May 1920 that Morecambe FC was formed after a meeting at the local West View Hotel. The club then took its place in the Lancashire Combination League for the 1920–21 season.

Globe Arena is a purpose built football stadium located in the Lancashire town of Morecambe towards the north of England. Opened in August 2010, the 6,476 capacity ground is named after the company which constructed it, and it replaced Morecambe F.C’s former ground, Christie Park.
