English County Championship Division 1

Season Description
Warwickshire are the 2026 Rothesay County Championship Division One champions, claiming their ninth first-class title after a dramatic late-season surge. Captained by Ed Barnard, the Bears won their final four matches in a row—including a title-clinching victory over Leicestershire by an innings and 79 runs on 26 September 2026. They capitalized on late stumbles by long-time leaders Somerset and defending champions Nottinghamshire.
Hampshire were the first side down after a difficult, low-scoring season. Leicestershire joined them in the relegation positions following a heavy 27-point deduction for pitch regulation breaches.
Leicestershire have launched an appeal against their pitch sanction. If successful, their reinstatement of points could mathematically alter the final table and push Essex into the relegation zone instead.
