Matúš "matys" Šimko (born April 21, 2002) is a Slovak professional Counter-Strike 2 player and a former professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player.
Šimko was introduced to the Counter-Strike franchise by his brother at the age of six. His competitive career began at 18 in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, starting with stints in Team Gravity, DEFEATERS, and BRUTE. He quickly made a name for himself through strong performances in grassroots Czech-Slovak leagues. His play caught the attention of Erik "The eLiVe" Sith, the in-game leader of ENTERPRISE esports, who recruited Šimko alongside long-time teammate Andrej "Adejis" Kameništiak.
Šimko and his new teammates quickly established themselves as the second best Czech-Slovak team behind the dominant SINNERS Esports, securing multiple local victores. They gained international coverage at the V4 Future Sports Festival 2021 in Budapest, where he put up a 1.63-rated map against Gambit Esports, the second-best team in the world at the time. However, the departure of the team's star AWPer, David "forsyy" Bílý, and the addition of two international players led to a decline in the team's performance, from which they never recovered.
In May 2022, Šimko joined Team Sampi alongside Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács and Lukáš "sAvana1" Lintner in what was regarded as a major signing for the organization. Šimko and sAvana1 were reportedly acquired for €60,000 and €40,000, respectively, earning them the nickname "millionaire boys". However, under high public expectations and scrutiny, the team underperformed and went through frequent roster changes. Šimko assumed the role of an in-game leader from September to December 2022, but was unable to lead the team to significant success. In 2023, Šimko reunited with his former ENTERPRISE teammate, The eLiVe, and they achieved several international successes, peaking at #41 on HLTV's team rankings. However, the team continued to fall short in domestic competitions.
As Counter-Strike 2 was released, Šimko attracted interest from top-tier teams, including Monte, OG, and TSM, due to his strong individual performances, including an average rating of ~1.25 and a standout 43-10 map against Preasy Esport. Ultimately, Šimko opted to stay with Sampi, leading the team to a victory at MČR 2023, the most prestigious local tournament. Before the event, rumors of a potential transfer to Fnatic began circulating. The transfer was later confirmed for a reported price of €170,000.
