Sterritt, who hails from the Scottish Highlands, joined the British Sailing Team in 2012 after completing a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering.

A successful partnership with James Peters in the 49er class began in 2014 with the pair winning World Cup gold on Olympic waters in 2018 and 2019, reaching World rank No.1 a year before the original dates for Tokyo.

Sterritt and Peters were beaten in the British selection races by eventual Tokyo Olympic gold medallists Stu Bithell and Dylan Fletcher.

At that point, the Scot took a break to pursue other interests, only to reverse his decision to step away from the sport in late 2021.

Sterritt combined with Peters to win European bronze in 2022 and finish sixth at the 2023 World Championships to qualify Team GB for a Paris quota place in the 49er class.
