The Campeonato Paraibano de Futebol, currently named Campeonato Paraibano Unipê for sponsorship reasons, is a football competition in the state of Paraíba, which currently has the participation of ten clubs from the state's elite football league, which annually compete in a mixed tournament with a system of promotion and relegation, whose organization and execution is the responsibility of the Federação Paraibana de Futebol (FPF). The tournament had its first amateur and unofficial edition in 1908, having officially become a state championship possibly from the 1919 season onwards, although some claim that the 1917 season was the first official one, while it was only from the 1938 season onwards that it began to include teams from the interior of the state and in 1960 it became professional.
Since the 1919 season, a total of 78 teams have competed in the First Division of the Paraíba Championship, with Picuiense being the newest team to join this group, which, in addition to defining the state champion, also qualifies local clubs to participate in regional and national tournaments, under the tutelage of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), and for the 2024 season, Paraíba, which occupies the 16th position in the CBF federation ranking, is entitled to three places in the Copa do Nordeste, two places in the Copa do Brasil and also two places in the Série D of the Brazilian Championship, in addition to a place guaranteed to Botafogo-PB in Série C, guaranteed by qualification via Série C of 2023.
Sousa is the current champion of the tournament, having won the 2024 and 2025 editions (NOTE: Of Sousa's 4 titles, 2 were consecutive titles) securing its 4th title, however Botafogo de João Pessoa, which is the current runner-up and holds the highest number of titles, 30 in total; followed by Campinense, which has 22 titles; and Treze, with 17 titles, together, the three clubs are nicknamed the "Iron Trio" of Paraíba, due to their histories of achievements and rivalries. The participation of the Iron Trio, as well as that of the other clubs throughout its more than one hundred years of history, has helped the Campeonato Paraibano to establish itself as one of the most traditional in the country, contributing to part of Paraíba's sporting culture, sustaining local values and identities and providing memorable moments for its fans.
