Importing older players

It seems Christmas has come early!

I have found historical sources for both Soccer and NFL players from the last 10 or 20 years. I could auto import these into the _Retired category. There are 10's of thousands of players.

My question is do people want this? It will vastly increase the number of players but should help with things like trophies and transfers history.

EDIT: The other option is to allow them to be added individually in a kind of semi import. That means people could at least add a photo and some history to the players without a big batch import getting messy.

I'm a bit unsure on this one so let me know what your opinion is...?

Here is the data which is browsable (its csv behind the scenes):

https://www.thesportsdb.com/sync_historic_squad.php?year=2004

The script matches name + DOB so might miss some players sometimes.

Change the URL for any year up from 2004 for premier league full squads. Very cool resource!!

EDIT: Added photos so we can see which players have them.

It would pretty cool to import them in order to have full squads history, but we have to be carefull with existing players with special characters on their names/surnames because I made a quick view and I have seen that, for example, Ole Gunnar Solskjær is marked as "Missing" when he is already on the db and this wil create a dupe:

Yep I found quite a few examples, although I have fixed the Unicode character matching now. Hopefully that helps.

That would be my main worry too, I don't see any downside other than this really.

Another potential duplicate I found https://www.thesportsdb.com/player/34174034

Cool, i've added a function to add a missing player from that page.

This can be done individually so people can check for dupes or add the ones they want only.

I've been trying to add artwork as well as I go along.

I can do this for multiple Euro leagues as well if wanted in the future... :p
