Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz retained his interim WBC super lightweight title with a sixth-round knockout of Nestor Bravo at Pechanga Arena in San Diego. The fight was physical and often untidy from the opening bell, with repeated clinches, warnings and a point deduction against Bravo in the fourth round after he threw Cruz to the canvas. Cruz remained composed through the disruption and gradually imposed his pressure, hurting Bravo with a left hook before producing the decisive finish in round six. A clean lead left hook badly stunned the Puerto Rican challenger and sent him to the canvas, prompting referee Thomas Taylor to stop the contest at 1:30. The victory moved Cruz to 29-3-2 with 19 knockouts and successfully extended his reign as interim champion.
