Spain's Paul McGrath delivered a career-best performance to win gold in the inaugural Men's Half Marathon Race Walk at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, setting a massive personal best time of 1:23:23. A dense leading pack stayed together through the opening 5km under the early pace of Italy's Francesco Fortunato, before McGrath and Germany's Leo Köpp broke clear around the 11km mark. Following Köpp's red-card disqualification past halfway, McGrath seized control of the race and steadily built an unassailable lead. Fortunato took silver in 1:23:36, while Italy's Andrea Cosi secured bronze with a personal best time of 1:23:49.
