The National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana, hosted a historic milestone for the sport on Sunday, May 3, 2026, with the final of the Mixed 4x100m relay. The primary challenge for the eight qualifying nations was adapting to the man-woman-man-woman running order in an event that is still relatively new to the global stage. The objective for the defending champions, Canada, was to protect their title after setting a brief World Record of 40.07 seconds in the heats the previous day.

Strategically, the goal was to capitalize on the high-altitude conditions of Gaborone to push the boundaries of human speed. The tactical focus for the Jamaican squad—featuring a mix of explosive youth and seasoned power—was to become the first team in history to break the elusive 40-second barrier in a sanctioned final. With a top-six finish guaranteeing a spot in the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, the ultimate goal for the field was to secure both a medal and a piece of history.

Result Description
Jamaica delivered an astonishing performance to win the Mixed 4x100m relay, shattering their own World Record with a time of 39.62 seconds. The primary objective was a flawless execution of baton exchanges, which the quartet of Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson, and Tia Clayton achieved with surgical precision. Ackeem Blake provided an early lead on the opening leg, and by the time Tia Clayton received the baton for the anchor leg, the result was never in doubt as she crossed the line to secure Jamaica's second World Record in as many days.

The race for the remaining podium spots saw the previous record-holders pushed to their limits. Canada claimed the silver medal with a time of 40.23 seconds, fending off a late surge from the United States, who took the bronze in 40.33 seconds. Germany and Spain delivered strong performances to round out the top five, while the Netherlands and Great Britain & NI unfortunately failed to finish following exchange-zone mishaps. The event was a resounding success for the Jamaican sprint program, which became the first to dip under the 40-second mark twice in a single weekend.
