The 49th edition of the 24 Heures Motos at the Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans served as the prestigious opening round of the 2026 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC). The primary challenge for the field was chasing down the defending champions, YART-Yamaha Official EWC Team, who entered the event on a streak of three consecutive pole positions. The objective for the factory teams from BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki was to break the Yamaha dominance in a race defined by razor-thin margins; the top five qualifiers were separated by only six-tenths of a second.

Strategically, the goal for the 60-car grid—the first full entry list since 2019—was to balance outright pace with mechanical longevity over the 24-hour duration. The tactical focus for the EWC category was tire management and fuel efficiency, while the Superstock and Production classes aimed for error-free relays. With a record-breaking crowd of 76,700 spectators in attendance and actor Pio Marmaï serving as the official starter, the ultimate goal was to survive the grueling Sarthe classic and secure a historic victory for one of the five major manufacturers.

Result Description
The YART-Yamaha Official EWC Team successfully defended their title, securing a historic victory at the 2026 24 Heures Motos on Sunday, April 19. The team’s primary objective was to deliver a flawless performance, and the trio of Karel Hanika, Marvin Fritz, and Leandro Mercado achieved exactly that. Riding the #1 Yamaha YZF-R1, they completed 859 laps to secure Yamaha’s sixth overall win at Le Mans and the third in the team's history.

The race was a masterclass in endurance. While YART controlled much of the event, the battle for the remaining podium spots was intense. Yoshimura SERT Motul (Suzuki #12) finished in second place, five laps adrift of the leaders, after a resilient performance by Gregg Black, Étienne Masson, and Dan Linfoot. Third place went to Kawasaki Webike Trickstar (#11), who finished 11 laps behind the winners. In the Superstock category, the Champion-Hert Powered by MRP team claimed victory, while the Production class saw a dramatic late shift as the leading Kawasaki #42 suffered a chain failure, allowing Legacy Compétition (Yamaha #96) to inherit the lead and take the win.
