The World Supersport Championship returns to action at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve for the first of two 17-lap battles. The primary challenge for the grid is managing the extreme physical demands of the "Rollercoaster" layout, where the high-speed downhill plunge into Turn 1 and the technical sequence through the middle sector require absolute precision. The objective for pole-sitter Federico Caricasulo is to deliver the maiden win for the ZXMOTO 820RR, though he faces stiff competition from a pack of hungry Yamaha and Ducati rivals.

Strategically, this race will be decided by tire conservation. The goal for the front-runners is to maintain a steady pace through the undulating sectors to avoid overheating the rear Pirelli rubber before the final sprint. The tactical focus for Can Öncü is to utilize his superior starting technique to grab the holeshot and dictate the tempo from the front. With several rookies showing impressive qualifying speed, the ultimate goal is to navigate the early-lap chaos and secure a podium finish to keep the championship hunt alive heading into Sunday.

Result Description
Valentin Debise secured a historic milestone on Saturday, March 28, 2026, by claiming the first-ever World Supersport victory for a Chinese manufacturer. Debise’s objective was to capitalize on the high-speed potential of his ZXMOTO 820RR, and he did so with a dominant display after taking the lead from Can Öncü, who suffered a lowside crash at Turn 14 while leading on the second lap. Debise controlled the pace from the front, crossing the line with a significant 3.685-second margin.

The battle for the remaining podium spots was a fierce multi-rider affair that came down to the final corner. Jaume Masia executed a brilliant late-race charge on his Orelac Racing VerdNatura Ducati, diving past several rivals on the final lap to secure second place. He was joined on the podium by Lucas Mahias, who fended off his teammate Roberto García in a draft to the finish line to take third. Albert Arenas and Philipp Oettl rounded out the top six, separated by less than a second in a frantic dash to the flag. Despite the early heartbreak for Öncü, the day belonged to Debise and the ZXMOTO project, which has now firmly established itself as a front-running force in 2026.
