The premier class takes to The Dome at America's Center for Round 12 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The primary challenge for the 450SX riders is a technical and soft track layout that features massive rhythm sections and a long, high-speed whoop line that tends to break down early in the evening. The objective for the riders in Heat 1 is to secure a top-nine finish to advance directly to the Main Event and avoid the high-pressure Last Chance Qualifier.

Strategically, gate pick for the Main Event is the primary motivator for the front-runners. The goal for the riders is to execute a clean start on the short St. Louis start straight and navigate the first few turns in clean air. The tactical focus for the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team remains on Cooper Webb and Justin Cooper, who look to capitalize on their strong qualifying times to control the pace of the 6-minute plus one-lap sprint. With the championship battle tightening, the ultimate goal for title contenders is to stay out of the ruts and establish dominance heading into the night's final.

Result Description
Justin Cooper delivered a standout performance on Saturday, April 4, 2026, leading a Yamaha sweep of the top two positions in the opening 450SX Heat. Cooper’s objective was to convert his raw qualifying speed into a race win, and he achieved it by grabbing a massive holeshot and holding off his teammate for the duration of the 8-lap race. He crossed the finish line 2.149 seconds ahead of the field, securing the first gate pick for the Main Event.

The battle for the podium was a showcase of consistency. Cooper Webb secured a comfortable second place, never allowing the leader to get too far out of reach while maintaining a safe gap over Chase Sexton, who finished third on his factory Kawasaki. Joey Savatgy put in a resilient ride on his Honda to take fourth, while Hunter Lawrence rounded out the top five. The session was relatively clean compared to the earlier 250 heats, though the deep ruts in the rhythm sections forced several riders, including Malcolm Stewart, to take conservative lines to ensure a safe transfer. Despite the pressure, the top nine riders successfully navigated the deteriorating St. Louis dirt to secure their spots in the night's premier-class finale.
