The 2026 Asian Development Tour (ADT) season officially begins at the challenging Seri Selangor Golf Club in Petaling Jaya. The primary challenge for the 144-player field is the course's notorious reputation as a "shot-maker's layout," featuring narrow fairways and some of the fastest, most undulating greens in Southeast Asia. The objective for the players is to secure an early advantage in the season-opening event, which offers a US$175,000 prize purse and critical Order of Merit points in the race for 2027 Asian Tour cards.

Strategically, the opening round is a test of precision over power. The goal for the field is to navigate the "risk-reward" par-5s while avoiding the penalizing slopes that protect the championship pin positions. With the tropical Malaysian humidity and potential afternoon thunderstorms, the objective for the early starters is to post a score before the conditions become more volatile. The tactical focus for favorites such as Nicklaus Chiam and Khavish Varadan is to manage their spin rates on the firm surfaces to ensure uphill birdie looks on the tiered greens.

Result Description
Nicklaus Chiam (SGP) set the pace for the 2026 ADT season with a "sparkling" 7-under-par 64, claiming the clubhouse lead at Seri Selangor. Chiam’s objective was met through a flawless display of putting, highlighted by five birdies on the front nine. His ability to navigate the complex slopes of the greens allowed him to establish a two-stroke cushion over the nearest challengers.

The chasing pack is led by Thailand’s Amarin Kraivixien and Kosuke Hamamoto, who both carded solid 5-under-par 66s. Local hope Matthew Cheung also stayed within striking distance with a 67, matching the score of the highly-touted Berry Henson. The round faced a slight delay in the late afternoon due to failing light, leaving 12 players—including Nitithorn Thippong—to complete their final holes the following morning. Despite the interruption, the day was defined by Chiam's clinical approach to one of the region's most demanding venues.
