The 2026 KPGA Tour season officially commences at the picturesque La Vie Est Belle Golf & Resort in Chuncheon. The primary challenge for the field is the Oaks Course’s signature undulating greens and the strategic water hazards that define the closing holes. The objective for the competitors is to secure an early advantage in the season opener, which has served as the tour's traditional "curtain-raiser" for over a decade.

Strategically, the opening round is a test of precision into the greens. The goal for the players is to navigate the "receptive yet deceptive" surfaces while managing the variable winds common in the mountainous Gangwon province. With a ₩1,000,000,000 prize purse at stake, the tactical focus for favorites such as Moon Do-yeop and Kim Hong-taek is to capitalize on the reachable par-5s to set a aggressive tone for the week. The ultimate goal for every starter is to find the fairway consistently to avoid the penalizing thick rough that protects the course's challenging par-4s.

Result Description
The opening round of the 21st DB Insurance Promy Open on Thursday, April 16, 2026, saw a highly competitive start to the new season. The primary objective for the field was to adapt to the competitive intensity of the first tour event of the year. Four players—Choi Seung-bin, Jeon Ga-ram, Choi Chan, and Lee Sang-yeob—successfully navigated the Old Course to share the lead, each carding an impressive 5-under-par 67.

The session was marked by a blend of veteran consistency and surging momentum. Choi Seung-bin, a former winner of this event, ignited his round with seven birdies to offset two bogeys. They are closely followed by a star-studded chasing pack at 4-under-par 68, which includes PGA Tour regular Kim Sung-hyun, who returned to Korea for the domestic opener, as well as Kang Kyung-nam and Heo In-hoe. The defending champion, Kim Baek-jun, began his title defense steadily with a 3-under-par 69, leaving him just two shots off the pace. The round proved challenging for some, with shifting mountain breezes making the back nine particularly technical, but the top of the leaderboard remains wide open heading into Friday.
