The opening round of the 2025 PGA Aroeira Challenge serves as the historic launch of the MENA Tour's 2025–26 season, as the tour begins its newly formed "Portugal Swing." Hosted at the prestigious PGA Aroeira Lisboa, the strategic narrative for the day centers on the recently renovated Aroeira No. 1 layout. For the 102-player field, the primary hurdle is navigating the tight, pine-lined corridors that demand surgical precision off the tee. With the course having hosted the Portuguese Open in the past, the tactical focus will be on controlling ball flight in the coastal Atlantic breeze and mastering the undulating greens that have been prepped to tour speeds.

The headline story for Tuesday's first round is the competitive debut of former Ryder Cup star Chris Wood on the MENA Tour, following his dominant performance at last week's Q-School. Strategically, all eyes are on how the seasoned professional adapts to the "sprint" format of the 54-hole event. Other key contenders include local hero Pedro Figueiredo and a fleet of young international talent like Ludovico Addabbo, who are looking to capitalize on a $100,000 prize fund—the largest ever for an opening leg in Portugal.

Result Description
Ludovico Addabbo and Chris Wood lived up to their billing as tournament favorites during a high-octane opening round of the 2025 PGA Aroeira Challenge. Addabbo set the clubhouse target early with a clinical 6-under 66, punctuated by a laser-like iron shot on the par-3 14th that set up a tap-in birdie. His round was a masterclass in bogey-free golf, taking full advantage of the calmer morning conditions before the wind began to swirl through the pines.

Matching the pace was Chris Wood, who continued his hot streak from Q-School with his own 66. Wood’s strategic play on the par-5s was the difference maker, as he birdied three of the four long holes to maintain his position at the top of the leaderboard. Trailing the leaders by just one shot is Portugal’s Pedro Figueiredo, who carded a 67 to the delight of the local gallery. Other notable Round 1 performances came from Sebastian Sandin and Aidan O'Hagan, both of whom remain firmly in the hunt at 4-under par.
