The 2026 Hilton Classic marks a pivotal stop on the MENA Golf Tour, as the field descends upon the Al Houara Golf Club in Tangier, Morocco. This 54-hole event is the centerpiece of the tour's North African swing, following the Al Houara Classic and preceding the tour's move to Jordan. Al Houara, a par-72 layout designed by Graham Marsh, is known for its rolling dunes and strategic bunkering that punishes aggressive lines while rewarding precise iron play.

The narrative entering Round 1 is dominated by a hungry field of European and Asian circuit hopefuls looking to climb the Order of Merit. France's Pierre Pineau arrives with significant momentum, aiming to leverage his experience on the Challenge Tour to navigate the potentially windy conditions along the Atlantic coast. Meanwhile, a strong Irish contingent led by Alex Maguire and Paul McBride will be looking to capitalize on their recent top-10 finishes in the region. With the course expected to play firm and fast, the opening 18 holes will be about survival and positioning before the inevitable coastal breezes pick up in the later rounds.

Result Description
Pierre Pineau navigated a challenging opening day in Tangier to lead the field after the first round of the 2026 Hilton Classic. The Frenchman carded a superb 3-under-par 69, trading four birdies for a single blemish to hold a slim one-shot advantage over a group of three chasers. Pineau’s ability to find the small, undulating greens at Al Houara proved the difference as many of the late starters struggled with deteriorating weather conditions.

The highlight for the traveling fans was the performance of Alex Maguire, who posted a resilient 4-under-par 68 earlier in the day to briefly hold the clubhouse lead. Maguire's round was a display of expert scrambling, as he managed to save par on several occasions after missing the narrow fairways. He sits in a tie for second alongside England's Curtis Knipes and Pakistan's Aadam Syed. Paul McBride also remained well in the hunt with an opening 1-under 71, while several of the pre-tournament favorites found themselves over par as torrential rain began to affect the scoring for the final groups of the afternoon.
