Description
The 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest at Staples Center is built on nostalgia and high-flying potential. The headline story features Larry Nance Jr. attempting to follow in the footsteps of his father, Larry Nance Sr., who won the league's first-ever dunk contest in 1984. He faces a stiff challenge from rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell (replacing the injured Aaron Gordon), who has been one of the most explosive stories of the season. The field is rounded out by the powerful Victor Oladipo and the creative Dennis Smith Jr., ensuring a battle between veteran all-stars and the league's most athletic newcomers.

Result Description
Donovan Mitchell claimed the 2018 Slam Dunk title by channeling the legends of the past. The Jazz rookie secured the win in the final round by donning a throwback Vince Carter jersey and mimicking Carter’s iconic "360-windmill" from the 2000 contest, earning a 48 to edge out Larry Nance Jr. (46). Nance Jr. provided his own highlights by bringing out his father to assist with a "rock the cradle" tribute and a spectacular "double-tap" off the backboard.
While the finals were a two-man duel, the early rounds featured high-concept theatrics. Victor Oladipo performed a dunk while wearing a Black Panther mask provided by Chadwick Boseman, and Dennis Smith Jr. earned the only perfect 50 of the night for a massive between-the-legs reverse. However, both were eliminated in the first round due to missed attempts, leaving Mitchell to seal the victory and bring the dunk trophy back to Utah for the first time since 2012.
