The 2020 NBA Slam Dunk Contest at the United Center is one of the most anticipated in years, featuring the return of Aaron Gordon. After his legendary 2016 duel with Zach LaVine, Gordon is back to claim the trophy that many felt he deserved years ago. Standing in his way is the high-flying "Airplane Mode" Derrick Jones Jr. of the Miami Heat. The field is rounded out by the return of 2008 champion Dwight Howard, who plans a "Superman" tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, and Milwaukee’s ** Pat Connaughton**, who looks to prove that his elite vertical can pull off an upset.

Result Description
In a night that will be debated for years, Derrick Jones Jr. was crowned the 2020 Slam Dunk Champion after a pulse-pounding "dunk-off" against Aaron Gordon. The two finalists traded perfect scores of 50 for five consecutive dunks, forcing the contest into overtime. In the final frame, Jones Jr. executed a near-free-throw line windmill for a score of 48. Gordon responded by leaping over the 7'5" Tacko Fall for a massive slam, but the judges—including Dwyane Wade—shocked the Chicago crowd by awarding him only a 47.

The early rounds featured nostalgia and creativity, with Dwight Howard donning the Superman cape once more and Pat Connaughton dressing as Woody Harrelson from White Men Can't Jump. However, the night belonged to the duel between Jones Jr. and Gordon. Despite Gordon completing arguably the most difficult dunks of the night, he finished as the runner-up once again, leading him to famously declare he would not participate in the contest ever again.
