Description

Derby’s Vaillant Live arena prepares for a domestic classic as the undefeated Constantin Ursu defends his Commonwealth welterweight title against the resilient Owen Cooper. This high-stakes encounter, promoted by Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions, carries the added prestige of the vacant British welterweight championship, a title both men view as their gateway to the world stage. Ursu, a heavy-handed southpaw with a perfect 14-0 record, is known for his technical poise and the knockout power he displayed in his title-winning effort against Eithan James. Cooper, the former English champion from Worcester, brings a reputation for "iron will" and high-volume aggression, famously rebounding from his sole career defeat with a career-best victory over Chris Kongo. With both fighters aged 25 and entering their physical prime, this clash of styles—southpaw precision versus relentless pressure—is widely considered the most balanced and exciting domestic matchup of the early season.
