Description

The 2026 MotoGP season ignites at the Chang International Circuit with Qualifying 1 (Q1) for the Thailand Grand Prix. Under the blistering heat and oppressive humidity of Buriram, this 15-minute shootout is the last chance for riders who missed the top 10 in Friday's Practice to fight for a spot in the pole position battle. The technical layout, featuring heavy braking zones and a sweeping final sector, demands perfection; a single tenth of a second can be the difference between starting on the front four rows or buried in the mid-pack. Expect a frantic final two minutes as riders look for a "tow" down the long back straight to shave those crucial milliseconds off their lap times.

Result Description

Brad Binder and Fabio Di Giannantonio successfully navigated a tense Q1 session to secure the final two transfer spots into the Q2 pole shootout. Binder, utilizing the trademark late-braking stability of his KTM, set the benchmark early with a 1:29.824. While several riders challenged his time in the closing seconds, the South African's lap held firm, ensuring he continues his streak of Q2 appearances.

The battle for the second transfer spot went down to the checkered flag. Fabio Di Giannantonio managed to snatch the position away from Miguel Oliveira by a mere 0.042 seconds on his final flying lap. It was heartbreak for the Trackhouse Racing team, as Oliveira had looked comfortable in second place until the final sector of Di Giannantonio’s lap. Further down the order, rookie sensations struggling with the high-speed transitions of the Thai circuit will find themselves starting from the rear of the grid for both the Tissot Sprint and Sunday's Grand Prix.
