The Korn Ferry Tour returned to Savannah, Georgia, for the ninth edition of the Club Car Championship at the daunting Deer Creek Course. The primary challenge for the field was the intricate bunkering and water hazards of the Tom Fazio design, which requires high-level ball striking to avoid big numbers. For the 156-man field, the objective was to find an early rhythm on a course that has historically favored aggressive play, with the winning score often reaching the mid-teens under par.

Ian Gilligan delivered a masterclass in the opening round of the Club Car Championship, carding a brilliant 10-under 62 to take a one-shot lead. Gilligan’s round was highlighted by an incredible stretch on the back nine, where he notched five consecutive birdies starting from the 12th hole. His bogey-free performance set a blistering pace for the field, showcasing a red-hot putter on the undulating Deer Creek greens.

The leaderboard remained packed with low scores as the field took advantage of the pristine conditions. John Pak sat in solo second at 9-under 63, having briefly held the lead during the afternoon before Gilligan’s late surge. A group of seasoned veterans and rising stars followed closely behind, including Brian Gay and Freddie Jacobson, who both fired rounds of 8-under 64 to share third place. Among the home favorites, Georgia native Blades Brown had a solid start with a 6-under 66, keeping him firmly in the hunt for the title.
