The second leg of Saturday’s double-header at Taupō International Motorsport Park steps up the intensity with a 60-lap (200km) feature race. The primary challenge for the field is navigating a track that has become increasingly "greasy" as rubber builds up, combined with the looming threat of unpredictable spring showers from a nearby weather system. The objective for the drivers is to manage the two mandatory pit stops and fuel strategy while preserving their tires for the critical final sprint on the abrasive New Zealand surface.

Strategically, this race tests the versatility of the new 2026 technical regulations. The goal for pole-sitter Ryan Wood is to secure a clean getaway and prove that the Walkinshaw TWG Racing Toyota Supra has the long-run pace to match its qualifying speed. The tactical focus for the Triple Eight and Dick Johnson Racing camps is to use the "undercut" during the pit cycles to jump the leaders. With home-town hero Wood starting from the front, the ultimate goal for the Kiwi fans is to witness a historic maiden victory for the Toyota brand on home soil.

Result Description
Ryan Wood etched his name into the history books on Saturday, April 11, 2026, by claiming an emotional victory in Race 9. Wood’s objective was to convert his first-ever pole position into a win, and he did so in dramatic fashion. After leading the majority of the race, a strategic undercut by teammate Chaz Mostert during the final pit cycle briefly dropped Wood to second. However, with eight laps remaining, the 22-year-old Wellingtonian reeled in Mostert and executed a decisive pass at Turn 1 to reclaim the lead, eventually crossing the finish line 3.036 seconds ahead of the field.

The race was a milestone moment for the sport, marking the first-ever Supercars victory for Toyota in just its ninth race since joining the championship. Broc Feeney delivered a late-race charge to snatch second place from Mostert, who rounded out the podium in third. Will Brown and Matthew Payne completed the top five after surviving a race that saw light rain sprinkle the circuit in the closing laps. Despite his Race 8 win earlier in the day, Brodie Kostecki finished sixth, which was enough to maintain his championship lead. The result sends Wood to the top of the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy standings as the series prepares for a quick pack-up ahead of a forecasted cyclone and the subsequent move to Christchurch.
