The Men’s Mile at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais was one of the most anticipated races of the indoor season, held on the famously fast track in Liévin. The event has a long history of producing world-class middle-distance performances, and expectations were especially high in 2025 with Jakob Ingebrigtsen confirmed on the start list.

Ingebrigtsen entered the race in outstanding form and with a clear objective: to attack the indoor mile world record. The combination of elite pacemaking, a smooth indoor surface, and a controlled race environment made Liévin an ideal venue for such an attempt. The supporting field included strong European and international athletes capable of sustaining a fast pace and ensuring the race would not turn tactical.

The anticipation centered on whether the pace could be maintained deep into the race and whether Ingebrigtsen could convert his exceptional 1500-metre fitness into a historic mile performance.

Result Description
From the gun, the pace was aggressive and precisely controlled. The pacemakers executed their task perfectly, stringing the field out early and setting splits that clearly signaled a world-record attempt. Jakob Ingebrigtsen positioned himself comfortably near the front, running relaxed and efficient through the opening half of the race.

As the pacemakers stepped aside, Ingebrigtsen took full command. His rhythm remained smooth and economical, and he steadily increased the tempo through the final laps. By the bell, it was clear he was on schedule for something extraordinary.

In the final straight, Ingebrigtsen powered away from the field to stop the clock in 3:45.14, setting a new world indoor record in the mile. The performance marked one of the finest indoor middle-distance runs in history and further cemented his dominance in the event.

Behind him, the remaining podium positions were decided in a tight battle, with several athletes recording season’s bests or personal indoor bests in the high-quality race.

The Men’s Mile at the Meeting Hauts-de-France once again lived up to its reputation as one of the premier stages for elite middle-distance running, delivering a historic performance and reinforcing Liévin’s status as a cornerstone of the indoor athletics calendar.
