The Men’s 3000 metres at the 2025 Millrose Games was one of the most anticipated races of the indoor season. As part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series, the event brought together elite middle- and long-distance runners in peak early-season form.

The main focus before the race was the expected showdown between Grant Fisher and Cole Hocker. Fisher entered as one of the world’s strongest long-distance runners, coming off major international success and known for his strength over longer distances. Hocker, the reigning Olympic 1500 metres champion, brought speed, tactical awareness, and strong closing ability, making him a serious threat in a fast indoor race.

The pace was expected to be aggressive from the gun, with speculation that the long-standing indoor world record could be challenged if the race unfolded cleanly. Several international contenders were also present, ensuring a deep field capable of pushing the tempo throughout.

Result Description
The race delivered one of the greatest indoor distance performances in history. From the early laps, the pace was fast but controlled, with the lead group staying compact through the first half of the race. As the laps progressed, the tempo increased steadily, setting the stage for a decisive final kilometer.

With several laps remaining, Cole Hocker moved to the front and began to press hard, stringing the field out and committing fully to a record attempt. Grant Fisher stayed composed on his shoulder, matching every surge. In the final lap, Fisher unleashed a powerful kick, pulling clear in the final straight to secure victory.

Grant Fisher won the race in 7:22.91, setting a new world indoor record for 3000 metres. Cole Hocker finished second in 7:23.14, also faster than the previous world record. The depth of the field was exceptional, with multiple athletes running personal or national records.

Final Top Finishers:

Grant Fisher (USA) – 7:22.91 (World Indoor Record)

Ky Robinson (Australia) – 7:30.38
Dylan Jacobs (USA) – 7:30.45
