The Women's Australian Open is a women's professional golf tournament played in Australia, operated by Golf Australia and the WPGA Tour of Australasia, long co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour (LET). Beginning with the 2012 event, it is also co-sanctioned by the U.S.-based LPGA Tour. In 2008, it was the second-richest women's golf tournament on the ALPG Tour, with a prize fund of A$500,000, and was raised to A$600,000 in 2010. With the co-sanctioning by the LPGA, the total purse was nearly doubled, and was also fixed in U.S. dollars.

Result Description
The opening round at Kooyonga Golf Club concluded with France's Celine Herbin and Agathe Laisne leading the charge, both carding impressive rounds of 69 (4-under par). The strategic narrative of the day was defined by the visitors' ability to master the firm greens; Herbin utilized a spectacular run of three birdies on the back nine to seize the early clubhouse lead. The primary hurdle for the field proved to be the dry, fast conditions, which saw several players struggle with distance control as the ball ran significantly further on the fairways than during practice rounds.

Australia’s Hannah Green remained firmly in the hunt, sitting just one stroke back at 3-under par (70) after a steady performance that included a brilliant birdie on the par-3 14th. She is joined in the chasing pack by Sweden's Moa Folke and local standout Kirsten Rudgeley, who both navigated the afternoon winds to stay within striking distance. Tactically, the leaders excelled by staying out of the deep greenside bunkers, whereas several pre-tournament favorites found themselves scrambling for pars after aggressive approach shots caught the sloping edges of the greens.
