Description

Noah Lyles of the USA entered the men’s 200m final aiming for a fourth consecutive world title, a feat only previously achieved by Usain Bolt. Lyles looked sharp in the heats and ran 19.51 in the semi-finals, confirming his form. Kenny Bednarek, also of the USA, was a major threat after consistent performances all season. Bryan Levell of Jamaica, Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, and Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain were also in contention. Mild evening conditions meant a fast race was likely if the finalists handled the bend well.

Result Description
Noah Lyles produced another brilliant finish to win in 19.52 seconds, claiming his fourth straight world 200m title and equalling Bolt’s record. Kenny Bednarek led through the bend but was caught in the closing metres, settling for silver in 19.58. Bryan Levell delivered a lifetime best of 19.64 to take bronze, Jamaica’s first medal in this event since Bolt. Letsile Tebogo was fourth in 19.65, and Zharnel Hughes fifth in 19.78. Lyles’ victory cemented his dominance over the distance and highlighted the continued strength of US sprinting.
