Formula E makes its historic debut in the Spanish capital at the Circuito del Jarama, marking the first competitive outing at this venue following its emergency role as a pre-season testing site. The primary challenge for the 22-car field is the technical nature of the 3.915 km permanent circuit, which is significantly longer and more demanding than typical street tracks. For championship leader Pascal Wehrlein, the objective is to defend his slim six-point margin in a race that introduces Pit Boost—a fast-charging pit stop technology—to a single-header event for the first time.
Strategically, the Madrid E-Prix is a "calculation game." The objective for teams like Jaguar TCS Racing is to perfectly time the mandatory Pit Boost stop to minimize time lost in the lane while maximizing the subsequent power advantage. With home favorite Pepe Martí making his highly anticipated debut on home soil for CUPRA KIRO, the tactical focus for the field is on energy management across the 23-lap distance, as the high-speed sections of Jarama threaten to deplete battery reserves faster than the usual urban corridors.

António Félix da Costa secured his second consecutive victory of the 2026 season, leading a commanding 1-2 finish for Jaguar TCS Racing in the inaugural Madrid E-Prix. Starting from third on the grid, Da Costa utilized a superior Pit Boost strategy on lap 12 to leapfrog the leaders. While he faced intense late-race pressure from his teammate Mitch Evans, Da Costa maintained a defensive masterclass to cross the finish line just 0.386 seconds ahead. Evans’ performance was equally remarkable, having charged from 16th on the grid to secure the second step of the podium.
The race was defined by high-stakes drama from the opening laps. Polesitter Nick Cassidy saw his hopes vanish after a strategic blunder by the Citroën team left him taking his Pit Boost too late, relegating him to 17th. Pascal Wehrlein showed championship-winning resilience, nursing a damaged rear wing for the majority of the race to finish third and retain his points lead. Further down the order, Dan Ticktum delivered a standout performance for CUPRA KIRO in fourth, while home hero Pepe Martí thrilled the Spanish crowd by leading early laps before eventually settling for a solid ninth-place finish.
