Description

The 2025 Betfred World Matchplay will take place from July 19-27 at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
The iconic summer tournament will see 32 of the world's top stars battling it out across nine days for the Phil Taylor Trophy and £800,000 in prize money.

All games have to be won by two clear legs, with a game being extended if necessary for a maximum of six extra legs before a tie-break leg is required.
The first round is played first to 10 legs, second round first to 11 legs, quarter-finals first to 16 legs, semi-finals first to 17 legs and final first to 18 legs.

Gian van Veen dethroned reigning champion Luke Humphries on the opening night of the Betfred World Matchplay, as 2023 champion Nathan Aspinall also crashed out in Blackpool.

Day One of the summer's biggest darts event saw the two most recent World Matchplay champions exit the tournament, with Van Veen headlining a trio of Dutch winners at the Winter Gardens.

Humphries was bidding to become the fourth player in World Matchplay history to retain the iconic Phil Taylor Trophy, but the world number one was stopped in his tracks by a superb Van Veen.
