LFA promotion will make its first trip to the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso in May with a Featherweight Showdown at LFA 209. Mato Grosso has the unique distinction of being the only state in Brazil to have Amazônia (Amazon Rainforest), the Cerrado (Tropical Savanna), and the Pantanal (Wetlands) within its borders. These biomes make Mato Grosso one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the country.
This will be the twenty-second LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. LFA 209 will also be the second LFA event to take place in the Central-West Region of Brazil after it visited the country’s Federal District in March. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Pernambuco.
LFA 209: De Lara vs. Henrique, presented by Monster Energy, takes place Saturday, May 24th at the Malai Manso Resort in Chapada dos Guimarães, Mato Grosso, Brazil, which is located 40 miles northeast of the state’s capital city of Cuiabá. The main event will feature top Brazilian prospects Inglesson De Lara and Bruno “Xinoco” Henrique, who will face off in a featherweight showdown. The entire main card will be available worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS® at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
De Lara (10-1) will be headlining his first LFA event after enjoying a breakout year in 2024. Known as “The Lara”, the proud Paranaense made his LFA debut last summer at LFA 187: Brazil vs. Latin America. On the main card of that event, seven fighters from Brazil faced seven fighters from Latin America in an event that would win the LFA Fans’ Choice Awards: Event of the Year. De Lara was the only member of Team Brazil to enter the competition as an underdog, but quickly proved the oddsmakers wrong. “Batting cleanup” (fourth position) for Team Brazil, De Lara swept the scorecards against Lucas Miletich, who was Team Latin America’s lone favorite on the card. The win gave the Brazilians an insurmountable lead that night and the former Brazilian National Taekwondo Team member now finds himself among his country’s elite MMA prospects.
Henrique (18-4) is one of the most intriguing prospects to come out of Brazil in recent years. LFA brass were impressed with his extensive body of work, which he has accomplished while competing almost exclusively in his home state of Pará in the Northern Region of Brazil. In fact, the talented Paraense has competed in Pará in 20 of his 22 professional MMA bouts, which is a career that spans nearly a dozen years. In that time, the man known as “Xinoco”, has earned 14 of his 18 wins by KO, TKO, or submission, while also capturing multiple regional titles. Henrique is currently riding an 8-fight win streak that dates back to 2017, the same year the LFA became a promotion. The dynamic striker is known for his spinning attacks and devastating KO power, all of which were on display in his most recent title bout against Werlleson “Muralha” Almeida.
