Mexico comes to this match after finishing second in Group A, behind the hosts. In their last match, El Tri defeated South Africa 3-0 at the Sapporo Dome with goals from Alexis Vega at minute 18, Luis Romo at 45 'and Henry Martin at 60'. Meanwhile, South Korea was the first place in Group B; in his last match he beat Honduras 6-0, cutting off the Central Americans' Olympic dream. It will be the fourth consecutive time that Mexico has faced South Korea in the Olympic tournament after their clashes in the group stage in the Athens 2004, London 2012 and Rio 2016 editions. The Asians won 1-0 in 2004 and 2016 , while in 2012 they equaled 0-0.
