The 2026 Moto2 season begins at the Chang International Circuit with a grid transformed by significant rider moves and the introduction of the new Pirelli tyre compounds. After a dominant pre-season, Manuel Gonzalez enters as the favorite, looking to capitalize on his move to the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP squad. However, he faces stiff competition from the Aspar duo of Daniel Holgado and David Alonso, the latter of whom has been tipped as the next big MotoGP prospect.

The Buriram circuit is notoriously hard on brakes and tyres, especially in the sweltering Thai heat. With the long straights favoring the Kalex chassis and the technical sectors playing into the hands of the Boscoscuro riders like Izan Guevara, the race is expected to be a tactical battle of tire management. All eyes are on the start, as the run down to the tight Turn 3 hairpin often dictates the flow of the race and serves as a primary overtaking hotspot.

Manuel Gonzalez secured a gritty victory in the opening round of the 2026 Moto2 season, navigating a race that was interrupted by two separate red flag stoppages. The initial start was halted on Lap 4 following a frightening incident involving David Alonso, who clipped the back of Senna Agius and was subsequently struck by Filip Salac. While Alonso was conscious and taken to the medical center for checks, the race was reset for an 11-lap sprint.

A second red flag appeared almost immediately after the restart when Sergio Garcia and Luca Lunetta collided at Turn 3. When the race finally got underway for the third time, Daniel Holgado took an early lead, but he was eventually overhauled by a surging Izan Guevara. In a dramatic final lap, Gonzalez executed a perfect slipstream maneuver to snatch the lead from Guevara and held on to take the checkered flag. Holgado rounded out the podium in third, followed by Ivan Ortola and Collin Veijer. The win marks a perfect start for Gonzalez's title aspirations in a race that tested the nerves of every rider on the grid.
