La nazionale di calcio della Scozia (Scotland naitional fitbaa team in lingua scots) è la selezione calcistica rappresentativa della Scozia ed è posta sotto l'egida della Scottish Football Federation.
È la più antica nazionale di calcio del mondo insieme a quella inglese, con cui disputò anche la prima partita ufficiale tra due nazionali di calcio[2]. Disputa la maggior parte delle partite casalinghe ufficiali all'Hampden Park, uno degli stadi di Glasgow, mentre numerose sono le amichevoli disputate in altre città (Aberdeen, Dundee, Edimburgo, Greenock, Kilmarnock, Motherwell e Paisley).
La nazionale scozzese vanta nel proprio palmarès 41 vittorie al torneo Interbritannico (Home International Championship). Si è qualificata otto volte al campionato mondiale di calcio e due volte a quello europeo, ma non ha mai superato la fase a gironi della fase finale. Ha raggiunto alcuni risultati degni di nota, come ad esempio la vittoria per 3-2 nel 1967 ai danni dell'Inghilterra campione del mondo l'anno precedente. Archie Gemmill ha segnato quello che è stato definito uno dei più bei gol di sempre in un campionato del mondo durante la partita contro i Paesi Bassi vinta per 3-2 al mondiale del 1978[3].
Nella classifica mondiale della FIFA il miglior posizionamento è il 13º posto dell'ottobre 2007, mentre il peggiore è l'88º posto del marzo 2005. Occupa il 44º posto della graduatoria.[1]
Il primatista di presenze in nazionale è Kenny Dalglish, che ha disputato 102 partite con la nazionale dal 1971 al 1986. Con 30 gol segnati detiene anche il record di reti marcate in nazionale ex aequo con Denis Law. Hampden Park (often referred to as Hampden) is a football stadium in the Mount Florida area of Glasgow, Scotland. The 51,866-capacity venue serves as the national stadium of football in Scotland. It is the normal home venue of the Scotland national football team and amateur Scottish league club Queen's Park F.C. and regularly hosts the latter stages of the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup competitions. It is also used for music concerts and other sporting events, such as when it was reconfigured as an athletics stadium for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
There were two 19th century stadia called Hampden Park, built on different sites. A stadium on the present site was first opened on 31 October 1903. Hampden was the biggest stadium in the world when it was opened, with a capacity in excess of 100,000. This was increased further between 1927 and 1937, reaching a peak of 150,000. The record attendance of 149,415, for a Scotland v England match in 1937, is the European record for an international football match. Tighter safety regulations meant that the capacity was reduced to 81,000 in 1977. The stadium has been fully renovated since then, with the most recent work being completed in 1999.
The stadium houses the offices of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). Hampden has hosted prestigious sporting events, including three European Cup / Champions League finals, two Cup Winners' Cup finals and a UEFA Cup final. Hampden is a UEFA category four stadium and it is served by the nearby Mount Florida and King's Park railway stations.
