Season Description
The 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season concluded as a historic showcase of dominance, featuring a masterclass championship run, a record-breaking photo finish at the Indianapolis 500, and several major calendar shakeups.
Alex Palou captured his fifth IndyCar championship in six years, successfully securing his fourth consecutive series title with Chip Ganassi Racing. The 29-year-old Spaniard showcased unrelenting consistency, racking up 6 wins, 8 pole positions, and 12 top-five finishes across the 18-race calendar. Palou statistically iced the championship a week early at the Milwaukee Mile opener, becoming the youngest driver in open-wheel history to reach five championships and matching Sébastien Bourdais' famous four-peat record (2004–2007).
The 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 delivered an unforgettable classic. Following a red flag for rain, the race ended in a heart-pounding, one-lap shootout. Felix Rosenqvist, driving for Meyer Shank Racing, secured the victory in a literal three-wide photo finish over David Malukas and Scott McLaughlin. It was the closest margin of victory in the history of the event.
