The Campeonato Carioca de Futebol, better known as Campeonato Carioca and popularly as Cariocão, and officially as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro, is the main state competition between football teams in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Disputed since 1906, the Championship began to be organized by the Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation (FERJ) in 1979. Currently, the competition starts in January and runs until mid-April. The first champion was Fluminense and the current champion is Flamengo, who won their 39th title in 2025. The four biggest winners are the clubs of the "G4 carioca": Flamengo (39), Fluminense (33), Vasco da Gama (24) and Botafogo (21). This dominance made the Cariocão the only state championship without clubs from outside the capital champions until 2025.
