Description

Judo was first included in the Summer Olympic Games at the 1964 Games in Tokyo, Japan. After not being included in 1968, judo has been an Olympic sport in each Olympiad since then. Only male judoka participated until the 1988 Summer Olympics, when women participated as a demonstration sport. Women judoka were first awarded medals at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Judo at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will feature around 393 judoka competing in 15 events, seven each for both men and women as well as a new mixed team event. The 2020 Summer Olympics was postponed in March 2020 and planned for 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tournament brackets will be drawn on 23 July, with the top 8 judoka in each weight class seeded.
