The second round of the 115th Investec South African Open Championship at Stellenbosch Golf Club is all about positioning as the field of 156 players battles to survive the 36-hole cut. After a crowded opening day where local favorite Dean Burmester and Englishman Joe Dean set a high bar, Friday's play will test the patience of the world's elite. All eyes remain on Patrick Reed, who needs a quick turnaround after an over-par start to keep his hopes of a third victory this season alive. With the prize for the champion including a historic first-ever invitation to The Masters, the pressure to stay within striking distance of the leaders is at an all-time high on this tight, tree-lined parkland layout.

Result Description
Italy’s Francesco Laporta produced a spectacular second-round performance to seize the clubhouse lead at the South African Open. Laporta carded a bogey-free 6-under 64 to reach 10-under par total, moving one stroke clear of England’s Nathan Kimsey. Kimsey was equally impressive, navigating the firm greens of Stellenbosch with precision to post a 65 and keep the pressure on the Italian at the top of the leaderboard.

The local charge remains strong, led by Dean Burmester, who sits in solo third at 8-under par after a solid 67. Burmester, a fan favorite, recovered from an early bogey to finish with three birdies in his final five holes. Other notable moves came from Hennie du Plessis and Joe Dean, who both finished the day at 7-under. Meanwhile, the tournament's biggest draw, Patrick Reed, showed signs of a fightback, battling back to even-par for the tournament with six holes remaining in his round. With the cut projected at 1-under par, several big names including Ernie Els and defending champion Dylan Naidoo are facing a nervous wait to see if they will qualify for the weekend’s historic pursuit of a Masters invitation.
