Description

The opening round of the 2026 Ayla Championship at the Ayla Golf Club has been officially cancelled, marking a complete shutdown of the MENA Tour's "Jordan Series." The strategic narrative for the event was originally designed as a "second chance" for players to master the Greg Norman layout in Aqaba, but those tactical plans were superseded by the Statement: Jordan Series Cancellation issued by the tour on March 1, 2026. The primary hurdle shifted from desert golf to regional safety, as the MENA Tour prioritized the security of its members following a significant escalation in regional conflict and the subsequent temporary closure of Jordanian airspace.

The headline story of the week is no longer the competition on the greens, but the broader impact of Middle Eastern instability on the newly relaunched tour. Strategically, players who had traveled to the region are now focusing on relocation as the tour enters an indefinite hiatus. The cancellation of the Ayla Championship follows the earlier removal of the Ayla Classic, effectively wiping the Jordan leg of the 2025–26 season from the calendar. Tour officials continue to monitor the situation, but the silence at the Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein-patronized venue reflects the severity of the current security landscape.
