Description

The 250SX Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) at Daytona is widely considered the most stressful five minutes in motorsports. With the field already thinned by the brutal heat races, twenty-two riders line up for one final opportunity to make the 22-rider Main Event. Only the top four finishers will transfer, while the rest see their night end in the Florida sand.

The Daytona LCQ is notoriously unpredictable due to the rapidly deteriorating track conditions. Deep, crossing ruts in the rhythm sections and a massive sand "beach" area make it easy for even the most experienced riders to make a season-ending mistake. Expect a frantic start where mid-pack riders take high-risk lines to move into the top four, as track position is nearly impossible to regain once the pack settles into the single-file ruts of the Speedway.

The 250SX LCQ lived up to its reputation for high-stakes drama, as Marshal Weltin secured the final transfer spot in a thrilling last-lap battle. The race was controlled early by Devin Simonson, who took an impressive holeshot and maintained a steady lead throughout the five-minute sprint. Simonson looked comfortable in the deep ruts, navigating the technical rhythm sections with precision to take the LCQ win and secure his place on the Main Event gate.

Behind Simonson, Jalek Swoll and Kyle Peters rode smart, defensive races to finish second and third, respectively. The real battle, however, was for the coveted fourth position. Bryton Carroll held the final transfer spot for much of the race but came under intense pressure from Weltin in the closing laps. On the final trip through the sand section, Weltin found a smoother outside line, carrying enough momentum to pull alongside Carroll. In the final two corners, Weltin secured the pass, crossing the line just half a second ahead of a devastated Carroll to clinch the 22nd and final spot in the Daytona Main Event.
